Scattered throughout the mountains of the Telluride area are remote and elusive backcountry cabins and Cabin Fever is on a mission to find them! Accessed by a short trek into the backcountry, students will learn to live simply in the High Camp Hut. This massive mountain lodge is the Academy's NEW High Alpine Campus and is fully equipped with a kitchen, lounging areas, wood burning stoves, and cozy sleeping quarters! Because this cabin is fully stocked and ready for our arrival, we only need to carry a few personal items of clothing and some group food, making for light travel through the deep forests that seclude our future base camp. Our objectives will shed light on proper packing for trekking, route finding and safe backcountry travel. Once we have arrived and settled in, there will be plenty of time for games by the fire, delicious mountain meals, hot tub soaks and day hikes to surrounding peaks. Each day will play host to a small collection of special guests, life-science workshops and interactive lessons in navigation and survival skills. Join us this summer as we all get cabin fever!
