Join us for this all NEW backcountry course designed to leave students with a working knowledge of wilderness skills, environmental education, outdoor ethics, first aid and team building. Our first week will take us to High Camp, a backcountry hut nestled deep in the San Juan Mountains, fully equipped with a kitchen, lounging areas, wood burning stoves, cozy sleeping quarters and a wood-fired hot tub! This immersive week of high-alpine workshops; ranging in topic from safe mountain travel, watershed education, group problem solving and team building, will prepare students for future adventures and inquiry-based learning. The second week of this program will put student's newly acquired knowledge to the test! At the start of our second week, the group will be shuttled up to Lizard Head Wilderness where they will begin their five day, four night backpacking journey to Silverton! They'll spend their days trekking through the forest, beneath the towering peaks of the San Juans. At night they'll hone in on their wilderness camping skills and enjoy evenings of backcountry cuisine, story telling and camaraderie. On the last day, the group will be picked up by their shuttle, enjoy a well-deserved soak at the hot springs and venture back home! This program is sure to build the skills students need to make backpacking a lifelong passion!
