Telluride Academy is excited and honored to partner with Centro de Investigacion de Recursas Naturales y Sociales (CIRENAS) for a unique and immersive Latin American adventure. Blending cultural immersion and adventure travel this one of a kind travel experience will expose participants to an authentic Costa Rican experience that goes far beyond a sun and sand excursion. Students will start their journey living with a local family where they will fully immerse themselves in local culture, customs and conversations. During the second part of the trip students will live on a working cattle ranch and explore the diversity of tropical ecology in and around our location on Costa Rica’s Nicoya Peninsula. Students will participate in field research, develop outdoor leadership skills, practice Spanish, and work on permaculture and other projects related to sustainability. There will also be plenty of time for catching waves with personalized instruction from the Academy surf specialists. Students will leave with a greater sense of their natural surroundings and the decisions a community must make to live responsibly, from an economic, environmental and community perspective. Upon completion of the program, each student receives a certificate for 30 hours of community service.
