Nestled high in the San Juan mountains, under the shadow of Sheep Mountain lies the Academy’s NEW “High Camp” campus and a world of outdoor adventures and field-based excursions! During this immersive week of high-alpine workshops; ranging in topic from safe mountain travel, peak summiting, watershed education, group problem solving and team building, participants will acquire skills for a future of adventures and inquiry-based learning. Students will live in a massive mountain lodge accessed by a short trek into the backcountry that is fully equipped with a kitchen, lounging areas, wood burning stoves, cozy sleeping quarters and a wood-fired hot tub! Each day will play host to a collection of special guests, interactive life-science workshops and adventures into the wilderness that surrounds. While “on-campus” students will be given a portion of each day to pursue an area of interest to them in either photography, painting, drawing, journaling or adventure planning. Under the passionate direction and guidance of the Academy’s talented program staff, students will experience the unique learning opportunities that exist in our living alpine classroom!
