Representing Telluride Academy's longest running international program, Mudd Butts International is making it's final "curtain call" in 2019 with an immersive adventure to the Kingdom of Morocco! For over 23 years, MBI has gallivanted across the globe with the intention of sharing a love for theater and the unique and authentic interactions that come to those that travel with open hearts and minds! Morocco will provide a backdrop fitting for a program that is steeped in storytelling. Located at the crossroads of numerous cultures, landscapes and histories, Morocco will stimulate all the senses of the inquisitive traveler. With soaring mountains, nomadic shepherds, small Berber villages, dazzling markets and mind-bending medinas, this north African adventure will delight even the seasoned traveler.
From our hub-city in the USA, our troupe will travel to Morocco's Atlantic coast for a few nights of education and immersion into our host-country. We will then travel inland to the mid-Atlas mountain town of Immouzer-Kandar. Nestled into the surrounding pine and cyprus forested hills and looking out over a vast region of orchards and rolling farmlands, Immouzer will become our home for the next two weeks. Students will will stay with local families and participate in daily theater practices with our local student troupe from Immouzer. Mornings will be a collection of day-trips into the countryside of this mountainous region and will include journeys to the surrounding villages and hamlets that dot the region. We will enjoy local cuisine, stroll markets and hike forested trails. Our mid-trip weekend will involve a dizzying dive into the walled city and medieval medina of Fes! This labyrinth of narrow streets, workshops, mosques and universities, makes up the world's largest non-motorized city and will be an onslaught of stimulation! We will stay in a local Riad within the medina and enjoy the aesthetics of old-Morocco. Our final week back in Immouzer will have us preparing for our final bi-lingual theater performances for our guests, friends and family!
Join the MBI crew for one last HURRAH to a land of dizzying diversity, ancient cities and renowned hospitality!
