Odyssey (n): A long and eventual journey or experience; an intellectual or spiritual wandering or quest.  Join us for this all NEW program as we venture to the hidden Opus Hut for a collaborative, educational and outdoor adventure experience. Students will spend their first day packing their belongings into their packs and trekking "Ophir Pass" to the mystical Opus Hut, nestled high in the San Juan Mountains. Here, students will live in a quaint mountain lodge that is fully equipped with a kitchen, lounging areas, and cozy sleeping quarters! With instructors from both Telluride Academy and the Pinhead Institute, this immersive week-long adventure of high-alpine, off-the-grid living will include a variety of experiential and science-based workshops. We'll use the surrounding wilderness to learn about safe mountain travel, participate in outdoor science experiments, test out different navigation techniques and practice the art of team-building and outdoor leadership. It is here, in our outdoor classroom, that students will acquire skills for a future of adventures and inquiry-based learning. We will also leave plenty of room for massive backcountry meals, sunset story-telling, silly games and lots of laughs! Don't miss this opportunity to journey into the world of outdoor adventure and learning!
*ALL students enrolled in this program MUST be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 per Opus Hut policy. We will collect vaccination cards prior to the start of this program.

General Program Schedule:

Monday - Friday: Triple overnight starting Tuesday

*A detailed itinerary will be available on the first
day of the program. Schedule subject to change.

All participants will receive Telluride Academy backpacks, sleeping bags and sleeping pads while participating in this program! Gear will be used by instructors to teach proper packing techniques on the first day and will go home with students the night before their overnight backpacking trips. We ask that you bring an empty duffel bag on the morning of your overnights so your child's gear can be taken home easily at the end of the program.

Important Notes: At almost 12,000 feet, Opus Hut is located at high elevation. We strongly recommend arriving to Telluride a few days early for any student prone to altitude sickness. Students should be prepared to carry their personal belongings on their back for the 3 mile trek to Opus Hut.

A negative COVID-19 test will be required for students attending this program. We are working on our current policies and will send more information about this requirement in the spring.
