Packraft: a small, portable inflatable boat designed for use in all bodies of water, including technical whitewater and ocean bays and fjords. A packraft is designed to be light enough to be carried for extended distances.

Introducing Packrafting; the most versatile of mountain and water sports. This new program combines backpacking with boating, utilizing lightweight rafts we carry in our packs to remote alpine lakes. Week one will bring us above Telluride’s big backyard. Carrying all of our belongings on our back, we will spend two nights among wildflowers and distant valleys beyond Bridal Veil Falls. Our first camp at Silver Lake will host a morning paddle around this pristine high-alpine body of water . After mastering our paddling techniques and playing relay games on the water, we will pack up and head up and over the mountains to Blue Lake for our second night. Here we will continue our paddling party in the icy turquoise waters before heading back to town. During our second week, we will really put our hiking, paddling and backcountry skills to the test. We will again pack our backs with our belongings, paddles, sleeping bags and head in to the Wild Weminuche Wilderness. We will trek up and past the blooming Columbines and babbling brooks and into the alpine basins that are home to some of Colorado’s most impressive peaks. With our boats on our backs, we will search for our base camp and our home for the next three nights of living above 12,000 feet. Ice Lakes Basin will be our starting point each day, allowing us to travel light and explore the area, paddle hidden lakes, slackline in the vast fields and have a beach party on the famous island of Island Lake. Before heading back to Telluride, we will have a group celebration in Ouray to commemorate our time together as Alpine Packrafters!
