Packraft: a small, portable inflatable boat designed for use in all bodies of water, including technical whitewater and ocean bays and fjords. A packraft is designed to be light enough to be carried for extended distances. It is designed to be light and compact enough for an individual to negotiate rough terrain while carrying the rafting equipment together with supplies, shelter, and other survival or backcountry equipment.
Fearless adventurers and aspiring expeditionists will love this true Telluride Academy experience! During Packrafters, students will experience the art of packrafting through an immersive backcountry excursion. On the first day of camp, we will do a local introductory hike and learn the inner workings of our new and innovative Alpacka packrafts. On day two, we will load up our packs and trek into the alpine wilderness for three days and two nights of mountain mania! We will set up our base camp below majestic peaks and attempt to reach beautiful high alpine lakes. When we’re not trekking through the alpine or floating around the area’s most spectacular lakes, we will be dining on creative backcountry cuisine, taking in impressive watercolor sunsets, and playing hilarious games under the stars. No backpacking or packrafting experience needed, just a desire to challenge yourself and discover new heights!
