Telluride Academy clinic-based kayaking is back! This intensive and progression-based format will allow aspiring and beginner hard-shell paddlers to develop a solid foundation of skills and techniques for a lifetime of running rivers. Students will spend ample time in small groups under the direction of the Academy’s nationally-certified whitewater instructors. The first week will involve several local flat-water sessions and is designed to allow students to familiarize themselves with basic paddle techniques, wet-exits and the kayak roll. Our week one finale will be a day spent taking laps on the 7-mile stretch of Class II water that flows through Hanging Flume canyon on the Dolores River. This mellow stretch of desert river is the perfect place to apply the techniques we’ve developed during our first week together. Week two will be ALL RIVER with a multi-day paddling adventure down one of our scenic regional rivers. This immersive river experience will allow students to apply the skills they have developed and focus on areas for progression. Paddlers will learn how to utilize a “ferry angle”, “catch eddies” and surf small waves! Come experience the thrill of kayaking in an informative and instructional format designed to turn you into a progressive paddler!
