Roads, Rocks, Rivers is a classic Academy adventure that brings together a perfect blend of multiple overnight adventures and adventure sports! We will travel to some dynamic locations throughout the southwest in our quest to ride new trails on our mountain bikes, paddle through rapids and ascend the walls of big canyons! Our adventure begins with introductions, a course overview, menu planning and a local mountain bike ride. We will meet up on day two with our overnight gear and our sense of adventure as we embark on our 12-day / 10-night multi-sport road trip! We will start off with an instructional session with the Academy’s whitewater staff as we participate in a “Moving Water Workshop” and a fun and refreshing paddle down the San Miguel River. Next, we are off to rock climb the remote canyon walls of Unaweep. This beautiful and unknown corner of Colorado offers ample opportunity to perfect our rope and rock skills by day and enjoy starry skies around the fire by night. Finally, our grand finale will be a multi-day paddle trip down the Colorado River! Know as Ruby-Horsethief Canyon, this 25-mile stretch of river will take us across the border of Colorado into Utah. We will once again be joined by the Academy’s boating staff as we set sail (and dip paddles) down this beautiful desert section of river. When we are not on the water we will enjoy exploratory side hikes, prepare delicious backcountry meals, swim in large side pools and relax on remote desert beaches. Whether you’re a beginner or an expert in any or all of these endeavors you will be sure to find plenty of opportunities to practice your skills and learn new ones with RRR. We’ll return to Telluride tired, dirty and with amazing memories of the incredible adventures found among the regions Roads, Rocks and Rivers!
