Calling all Outdoor Leadership Challenge alumni and aspiring alpinists! This is a rugged adventure for those who prefer to get off the beaten path, explore places unknown, learn the technical aspects of high alpine mountaineering, and challenge their physical and mental strength. Our adventures will be based in the remote Vestal Basin, deep in the Weminuche Wilderness, and home to some of Colorado's iconic Peaks. This natural playground will play host to our Mountaineering Clinic. Our 11,400 ft. base-camp will be our acclimation and staging point for our two days of learning backcountry travel, camping basics and Leave No Trace ethics. During the day, we will learn about alpine ecology, self-dependent high alpine travel, weather/climate management, navigation and map reading, and practice technical 4th-5th class climbing methods in a single-pitch setting. By night, we will enjoy hearty backpackers' dinners and even experience an overnight solo camping bivvy! Gear up! This is the pinnacle of your Academy Adventures.
